Donner Summit Residence
Located in the village at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, this residence was designed to withstand large snow loads often seen on the summit over the winter months. The home features simple roof forms that divert snow away from areas of circulation and occupant activities. The great room, located on the second floor, is designed to provide year-round views when snow buries the lower levels. The homes’ site was situated to maximize views of the surrounding mountain peaks, including Mount Lincoln and Mount Disney. Large amounts of glazing are oriented for solar gain in the winter and shaded during the summer. The south-facing deck wraps around the great room with a covered portion of the deck hosting a hot tub.
